What Families Say After Getting Prepared
Each account below is from someone who came to Heronest uncertain of where to start and left with their records in order and a clearer picture of what comes next.

What People Experience
Ananya Lertkul
Bangkok, Thailand
I went through the kit after my father passed and I genuinely did not know what documents existed or where they were. I wish I had done this before. The structure is simple enough that I could sit with my mother on a Sunday and work through it together. Everything is now in one binder and one folder on a shared drive.

The workshop filled a gap I did not realise existed. I have been in Thailand for nine years and had assumptions about how things work here that turned out to be partly wrong. The facilitator was clear that they were not giving advice, but the general picture they provided helped me understand what questions to take to a solicitor. Money well spent.

We did the Family Readiness Programme with my husband and our two adult children. I was not sure how my children would respond — these topics can feel uncomfortable — but the facilitator created a calm and practical atmosphere. We now have a shared document, and everyone knows what it contains and where it lives. It took three sessions over two weeks.

My wife and I have been putting this off for years. Starting with the kit gave us a tangible first step — not a legal commitment, just a framework for gathering what we already had. By the end of a weekend we had filled in perhaps 70% of it and could see exactly what was still missing. That was genuinely useful.

French expat, Sathorn, Bangkok
As a foreign national living in Bangkok I had very little understanding of how things would work here if something happened to my husband or me. The workshop covered the general picture clearly and without creating alarm. The note that they are not advisors actually gave me more trust in the information — they were not selling anything beyond the session itself.

My mother asked me to look into this after my grandmother's estate caused significant family difficulty last year. We did the Family Readiness Programme and it helped us put things in order in a way that was calm rather than fraught. The conversation guide for sensitive topics was particularly thoughtful — it gave us a structure for a discussion we had been avoiding.

Three Preparation Journeys
Each situation was different. What they shared was a desire to be organised before the moment arrived.
The Situation
A retired Thai couple in their late sixties, Bangkok. Their adult daughter lived abroad and was concerned that if anything happened, she would not know where any of the paperwork was, let alone how to navigate what came next.
What They Did
They started with the Everything-in-One-Place Kit and worked through it over four Sunday afternoons. Their daughter joined the third session of the Family Readiness Programme via video call from Singapore.
The Outcome
A complete shared record covering property, accounts, insurance, and contacts. Their daughter now has a digital copy and knows exactly what is where. The couple engaged a solicitor for will-related matters using the referral list provided.
The Situation
A British man in his fifties, long-term Bangkok resident. He had significant assets in Thailand and the UK but had never looked into how Thai inheritance processes would apply to him as a foreign national.
What He Did
Attended a Process Awareness Workshop, then followed up with the kit to organise his documents. The workshop gave him enough context to have a genuinely productive first conversation with a Thai legal practitioner.
The Outcome
His own words: "I arrived at the solicitor knowing what questions to ask. The appointment took half the time it might otherwise have taken, and cost me accordingly." His records are now organised and reviewed annually.
The Situation
A Thai woman in her forties whose mother had recently passed. The process had been more difficult than expected due to scattered records and family members with different ideas about what existed. She wanted to handle her own affairs differently.
What She Did
Completed the kit on her own, then brought her husband and sister through the Family Readiness Programme. The conversation sessions helped address some of the family communication patterns she felt had made her mother's situation harder.
The Outcome
A shared record accessible to three family members, with agreed instructions for what to do and who to contact first. She described the Family Readiness Programme as "the conversation we should have been having for years, given a structure that made it possible."
